Shanghai art expo is the largest, oldest and most international art fair in China and Asia. It will be staged in Shanghai world trade center on November 14, 2013, solstice on November 17, 2013. It will once again present a magnificent art feast for domestic and overseas collectors.

Frogman art gallery was invited to attend the 2013 Shanghai art fair and will present the latest works of American magical realist artist Michael Parkes. Michael grew up in Missouri. For the artist himself, drawing seemed like an innate ability — Michael could draw even before he could read or write. As Michael said, “my painting experience at that time was completely separate from the spiritual level.”

The artist loved philosophy so much that he, immersed in the philosophical world, lived a long time outside art and at the age of 24 went to live in India with his wife. His time in India taught Michael to meditate and to find himself spiritually. He began to learn to balance the noise of the world with the peace of mind, overcoming this constant challenge to survival. Michael describes his meditation experience this way: “whenever I start meditating, I can feel and explore my innermost feelings. In my twenties, my mind began to communicate with another self — in my dreams, this self was constantly explaining to me things that I didn’t understand. Artists always set themselves at the edge of human consciousness and constantly break and reconstruct their cognition. Elegant and fluid, his works are an expression of “artistic conception” beyond the superficial meaning of images. What he describes is not only the charm of distant fairy tales, but also the inner space of artists’ hearts. Artists including Nick Bibby, Helene Labrie, Loet Vanderveen, Marty Goldstein, Tim Cotterill and Laurence Broderick will also be featured in some of their new works.
