Between art and mathematics
As a mathematician, Feugeas’ research on entropy has significantly influenced his artistic work. In this field, it has been shown that disorder is not only the norm but also the only solution when it comes to creating balance. The states of tension and solution, which he presents in his artistic work, create a flow that he explores on the canvas and in the streets. The artist envisages the experience of the work as each individual’s ability to question his own equilibrium.
A single line
For as long as he can remember, Feugeas has always divided his time between art and music. Over time, he also became interested in mathematics and, later, in painting. Music, however, has always been a part of his life. The use of constraints as a concept has rapidly become an important aspect of his artistic work. For example, the use of a single line is a challenging starting point. The line closes in on itself again and again, like a cell that multiplies itself before our eyes. Its purpose becomes more and more complex and ambiguous. Sometimes, the line blurs in order to become implicit. Certain points can be different and indeterminate and, yet, mathematically acceptable. Feugeas questions and aspires to construct unity, working towards that aim until he has reached an equilibrium.
From Bordeaux to India
Feugeas’ work has been exhibited multiple times in collective and solo exhibitions in France and India. Today, some of his paintings are a part of private and public collections. You can also find them on the walls of France and other countries abroad.
