Helene Labrie is a female artist born in Canada. Her father was a philosophy teacher of literary attainment, and he owned a large library of art books, including art history, painting, and sculpture. Since childhood, the artist was surrounded by such a cultural atmosphere, and the immersion reading greatly enriched her imagination and humanistic atmosphere. She went on to study at the school of art at Quebec State College. There, she was completely moved by the tranquil atmosphere of the campus at that time, and she knew that she had found a world in which she could live freely.

Since then, Helene began to study art. During this period, she was inspired and supported by many famous artists, and gradually mastered the skills of accurately expressing lines and displaying dynamic movements in painting. She used to sketch human bodies in front of models all day long, which laid the foundation for her to capture human body curves accurately in future creations. The real reason for the artist to choose sculpture as her major is that she once saw her father transfer clay in the clay workshop and was deeply attracted by the wonderful interaction between the clay and the fingertips. So she took clay and sculpture classes. In the process of learning, Helene Labrie showed amazing talent. She quickly caught the world’s attention and became a professional artist by holding her first exhibition in 1979. As Irene said: “I didn’t choose sculpture, but sculpture chose me.”

The “Proof of Existence” exhibition, as always, focuses on the moments Helene captured in life. For the artist, the purpose of art is to show the beauty that is often neglected in objective existence. She thinks these details of life better highlight the meaning of human existence. With simple lines, delicate forms, subtle expressions, she skillfully blended her works into personalized visual symbols, which are full of femininity and life.
