Early in the Neolithic period, the copper bell, tongling in Chinese, had already existed. In China, it shows the characteristics of the bronze culture centered in the  Central Plains. With its rich social significance, tongling has become one of the foundations of the culture of Shang and Zhou Dynasty. In modern times, it gradually got rid of its functionality, and developed itself as a heritage of art and culture. Since the beginning of 1970, the artist started to make tongling in a handmade way in which he had been constantly trying to emphasize the integration of artistry and modernism for purpose of showing the aesthetic and cultural implication of tongling in a variety of dimensions.
